Dear ,
The month of November was fully dedicated to our roots and I feel like sharing this with all of you.
Last weekend I had the honor to guide a group of beautiful souls in Bucharest to reconnect with their family systems through creating their genogram. It was also the month where my trainees had their individual sessions connecting with their mother and father lines. And today I had the honor to hold a seminar for the international training about the power of working with the genogram in constellations.
One might think that creating a genogram is just drawing a picture with squares, circles, lines and some names. But it is much more than this.
It is a deep process that already starts with gathering the information back to our great-grandparents’ generation (or beyond).
Sometimes there is resistance – or within us, as we might not feel good asking our parents or other relatives for various reasons – or resistance from our parents and relatives because some things might be too painful to share or easier not to be remembered.
Sometimes we experience unexpected re-connection with some family members due to our interest in our family history, as they finally might feel to be seen and to matter.
The second step is to finally create the actual genogram. This again, is a process different for everyone. Sometimes everything flows easily, sometimes it feels hard to even start. We might discover that we give much more space to one family line than to the other, or we might feel drawn to start over and over again.
It can be an experience of warmth and loving connection, but also of frustration and a feeling of not belonging. While we draw and create, something happens deep within us.
We become aware that we are part of this, that this is where we come from, that our story started long before we were born. We realize that no matter what happened in the past, we are here – or sometimes we are alive only because these things happened in the past.
Have you ever thought about how many circumstances, tragedies, or serendipities might have contributed to you being here in this world right now? Just take a moment and notice how you feel about it.
Dealing with our genogram helps us to realize how many issues can be resolved only by looking at them from a systemic point of view. We can leave some things behind and move on with our life in our own way. It can change the look we have at ourselves and at our life and one participant once said: “I also became aware that my origins make me unique and knowing that comforts me every day.”

The month of December for many of us is the month of family connections through the celebration of Christmas. Family connections that might be strong and beautiful, or that might feel tense and burdensome. Or they might be missing at all and this could make us feel sad and depressed.
May December and Christmas remind you that you have roots, even if you don’t feel them or don’t know them. And that connecting is not a matter of physical contact, but a matter of opening our hearts and saying “Yes” to where we come from.
In the spirit of love and reconciliation
