Dear ,
The 1st of July 2015 – exactly 10 years ago – was the day when my family and I moved to Malta, where we spent 3 years until summer 2018. This move happened only due to some circumstances which, at first glance, were not pleasant at all.
Many of us encounter difficulties in our lives that leave us disappointed, desperate, and frustrated. When I look back at my life, all these situations, eventually, turned out to be blessings, even though I might have understood only years later.
Step by step, my whole little family learned to trust that the universe knows better, because it has a much wider perspective than we humans.
Today I would like to share with you a part of my story that marked the beginning of one of the most beautiful unfolding experiences in my life.
In 2014 we were living in Austria. Our 13-year-old daughter encountered a lot of bullying at school, because she was German (yes, you might not believe it, but it happened). Finally, she got permission for homeschooling and despite the doubts of the headmaster, she prepared herself for all the exams and passed the school year very well. This experience of her own strength and stamina gave her courage to overcome many challenges in the following years.
In the same year we moved into a new apartment, signing a 4-year rental contract, as we liked the place and the nearby mountains very much. Besides this I had been working with the family constellation approach for a couple of years already, starting to grow my own business.
In January 2015, our landlord cancelled the rental contract due to his need of personal use for the apartment. Our first reaction was to fight this, but we soon understood that we had no chance. So, we needed to look for a new apartment which brought up a lot of until then hidden issues between me and my husband. We even ended up considering moving to separate places and allowing time for things to settle.
To keep a long story short, one day, mid-February 2015, my husband came home and said, “what about Malta?”. For some reason it felt right for the whole family, also for me, although I had never offered my service in English and had no idea if anyone there would be interested in family constellations.
10 years later, I can only say “thank you” to the Austrians who treated our daughter so meanly, and “thank you” to our then landlord for cancelling the rental contract. You were blessings in disguise.
We could have fought, we could have insisted – but we allowed the universe to guide us, even though, I guess, we sometimes did not fully understand what we were doing and why.
Although we left Malta in 2018, it is still the place in my heart. The place where my “true” journey with family constellations began and that eventually paved my way to become a trainer, supervisor, and even author.
On this 10th anniversary I want to send a special "thank you" to all those people in Malta (Maltese and expats) who trusted and supported me in those first 3 years. You gave me the courage and the confidence to start, to continue, and to grow.
And to everyone reading this newsletter now I want to say: “If something happens that disrupts your life, you have a choice: to look back at what you might have planned or wished for and stay there. Or to acknowledge the change and trust in the UNFATHOMABLE WAYS OF THE UNIVERSE. Things might even turn out better than you could imagine.
May you have a blessed month of July.
In the spirit of love and reconciliation
