Everyone who is familiar with constellations knows about hidden loyalties.

We can be unconsciously loyal to a member of our family. This could be through not allowing ourselves to choose a certain career path, through unhappy relationship patterns, through diseases or much more.

Many people think if someone is a family constellation facilitator or trainer, they have solved all their issues. Well, this could be true for many things we consciously struggled with and through constellation work or other approaches we were able to heal. But what about “hidden loyalties” that are limiting our life experience without us even knowing about it?

Let me share a personal story with you.

I was born in a village and although I have worked and partly lived in cities, I never really enjoyed city life and staying in a city. Living in the countryside, or at least close to it was my priority and I would have always preferred it to living in the city. And somehow my wonderful family always accepted this.

Interestingly enough I never questioned this pattern and it never seemed to be an issue. Until a couple of months ago, when I suddenly felt the urge to change something and to move to Sofia. The only thing I knew was that I needed a different life around me, a different inspiration and I could not even tell what else it was that I wished for.

During this whole process of connecting with the city of Sofia, the scales fell from my eyes: I had never allowed myself to enjoy city life because of a deep and very hidden loyalty with my mother.

My mother had grown up in the city of Munich and lived there until she married my father. She had enjoyed the city life, the shops, the opera, and her job as a primary teacher which she loved dearly.

When my mother married my father, they moved in a village house that belonged to my mother’s grandmother because my father took over the doctor’s surgery that was already established there. Although my mother loved it and had spent most of her holidays there, she never really got over leaving the city and as a consequence also the job that she loved.

So, a couple of months ago, when I suddenly felt the need to move to Sofia, everything made so much sense. I bowed deeply to my mother’s fate also knowing that without her choices and her paying this price, I would have never been born.

For me all this was another lesson that everything happens at the right time and healing happens when we less expect it but go with our inner movements.

Now I am enjoying both honoring my mother and her memory.

The city with its bubbling life, the inspiration, the walks in the park where nature is so much alive, the many new connections that I am allowed to receive and all the new experiences that come with it. And the village with our beautiful garden, the stillness, the simple life, and the lovely people there who support my choices.

May you all allow the inner movements in your life to touch you and may you trust them so that hidden loyalties can be unveiled and healing can happen.
